The Uzo Method- Holistic Healing through Dance Music and Movement
Vision
To integrate dance, music and movement into preventative health care as a standard for wellness and illness prevention
Mission
To educate communities on the positive effects of body movement accompanied by music on physical and emotional well being
Organizational Background
The Uzo Method is a program adopted by Arts for Life Community. The Uzo Method program promotes prevention through creative healing therapy. Creative healing includes but is not limited to dancing and movement to sounds and music. The ability to tap into the internal rhythm of breath and heart sounds or expressions through movement and external vibrations is the goal of our educational workshops. The Uzo Method promotes wellness through dance, music and movement to children and adolescents ages 9-18. These include (but not limited to) youth who are at health risk including emotional disturbances, behavioral problems, post traumatic stress and obesity. 8 sessions once a week for 90mins are held to engage the participants in healthy living through movement incorporating the basics of healthy eating, movement, creativity, self empowerment and positive self esteem. Assessments and evaluations are administered to measure outcome.
The Uzo Method project is in the process of merging with The Arts for Life Community a non-profit organization. This provides status to help facilitate funding to target a larger body of community members. Uzo Nwankpa is a public health registered nurse. She first started in 2004 in Ft Lauderdale Fl, where she facilitated the first workshop which was held at a local YMCA in a low income community. Since then, workshops have been held across FL and AZ to promote a new way of thinking in our community. Prevention is the cure.
